Viva! protests dairy stunt in Bristol

The leafleting event went really well on Saturday, when Claire and Jenny from Viva!, supporters and other vegan activists handed out Viva! leaflets outside The Milking Parlour stunt in Bristol. In case you hadn’t heard, an artist had brought two cows into the centre of the city. Something we urged her not to do.

We handed out thousands of leaflets (The Dark Side of Dairy, Britain's Hardest Working Mothers, and Grot milk) to raise awareness about the cruelty inherent in the dairy industry and the health impacts of consuming dairy.

One of the volunteers posted this on the leafleting event's page and summed it up really nicely:

"Quite a few people were interested in going vegan or came over to tell us they were already vegan. :) Others told us they had read Fast Food Nation and watched Cowspiracy. It was lovely to speak to so many people from all walks of life who were very aware of the cruelty inherent in the dairy industry. A few people were really angry that the event was not representative of what really happens on commercial dairy farms. Others were really confused what the event was about and even more confused that it was supposed to be art!

It was also great to speak to the people who were unaware and shocked that cows need to be made pregnant again & again and that their calves are taken away so humans can drink their milk.
Quite a few people said they had no idea, but once they had read the leaflet, it is so obvious as they are mammals just like us.

If we hadn't been there leafleting, the whole event would have been nothing more than a "come and gawp at the cows then buy an ice cream" event.

But thanks to the people handing out Viva! leaflets I think a lot of people have been made aware of what really happens behind the scenes."

Another person commented on the Milking Parlour page itself:

"I took home a really well written leaflet about the suffering of cows in dairy farming that has made me think much more seriously about the value of veganism."

Has this made you think again? Why not try veganism for 30 days?
