Reading to host Eco Veggie Fayre featuring world authority on meat and climate change

AN expert author, journalist and eco-animal campaigner will be the guest of honour at the first ever Reading Eco Veggie Fayre in December.

Tony Wardle, associate director of Viva!, Europe's largest campaigning animal organisation, will be delivering an inspirational talk at the event on Saturday, December 19, at Reading Town Hall.

'Save the World with your Knife and Fork', starting at 1pm, will examine the impact of meat and dairy consumption on the environment - drawing on Tony's extensive knowledge on the topic following the publication of Viva!'s groundbreaking report, Diet of Disaster.

The talk will be followed by a screening of the award winning climate change film, 'The Age of Stupid,' starring Pete Postlethwaite, at 2pm and a debate: 'Should Reading Adopt a Meat Free Day'' at 4pm.

Reading Eco Veggie Fayre, which runs from 11am - 6pm, will also include lots of information, products, advice and inspiration to help people reduce their carbon footprint by going veggie.

"We're not stupid - we know its time to make changes. In fact the biggest Christmas present you can give your kids this year is to reduce your family carbon footprint. It's got that serious," says event organiser Tim Barford from the latest veggie lifestyle magazine Off The Hoof.

Reading Eco Veggie Fayre, which runs from 11am - 6pm will also include:

Cookery demos including from Viva!'s Helen Rossiter, cooking up a full Christmas dinner
'Meet the Experts' session, with the chance to chat about a variety of subjects including cooking, health and nutrition
Kids area
Stalls, shopping, special offers and freebies
Tasters and loads of veggie food including a caf' with two excellent veggie caterers and even a raw food banquet!
Licensed bar, music and entertainment
Admission is only "3 for adults, "1 for kids and OAP's. There are 200 free goody bags (worth over "10!) on entry to the first arrivals! Happy Xmas Reading, lets reduce our carbon footprint in style!!!
