VIVA! VICTORY: TESCO AND RED TRACTOR DUMP HOGWOOD HORROR FARM

Against all odds, Viva! Campaigns have returned to Hogwood pig farm to expose shocking conditions for the third year running. In response to the footage Viva! obtained, Red Tractor have suspended Hogwood’s certification and Tesco have dropped them with immediate effect.

Since 2017, Viva! Campaigns have recorded a catalogue of cruelty at Hogwood Farm in Warwickshire, including extreme overcrowding; routine mutilation; cruel farrowing crates; sick and dying pigs abandoned in gangways; the dead left to rot amongst the living; painful lacerations from brutal assaults and live cannibalism.

Despite Tesco's attempts to reassure its customers that they take animal welfare ‘extremely seriously’ and that they expect producers to meet ‘stringent, industry-leading requirements’, the pain and suffering continued. We went back to Hogwood Farm in 2019, armed with hidden cameras. In response to the footage Viva! obtained Red Tractor suspended their certification and Tesco dropped the farm with immediate effect.

The grim reality of factory farming is far from the 'highest animal welfare standards in the world' lie we're being fed. It's time to choose vegan.

10 million pigs killed

in the UK each year equates to:

833,333 per month
192,308 per week
27,397 per day
1,142 per hour
19 per minute
1 PIG KILLED EVERY 3 SECONDS

“The conditions for pigs at Hogwood Farm are a shocking reminder of how bad factory farming can be. For example, extremely poor hygiene, filthy, cobwebbed and dilapidated pens, waterlogged floors, the dumping of dead, maggot-infested piglets in an open wheelbarrow, and the incarceration of sows with not even clean water to drink, were all apparent on video footage from this farm. There was a disturbing absence of care for sick and dying animals, and workers hadn’t even removed dead pigs from pens. This led to cannibalism by bored and frustrated pigs”
