Josef Brown Dirty Dancing vegetarian

If you were to ask people, ‘If you could ease unnecessary suffering, would you?’ I bet 99 out of 100 would say yes."

Australian actor, dancer, choreographer, and writer, known for Neighbours (1985), Dance Academy (2010) and Spartacus: Gods of the Arena (2011).

Upon deciding that he wanted to act, Brown enrolled at The McDonald College of the Arts where he finished his high school education and also learned how to dance. He joined the Sydney Dance Company in 1997 and appeared in and choreographed many productions. Brown left the Sydney Dance Company in 2004 and went on to originate the role of Johnny Castle in the stage adaptation of Dirty Dancing. For his portrayal of Johnny, Brown won the Outstanding Performance in a Stage Musical accolade at the 2005 Australian Dance Awards. In 2012, Brown originated the role of Charlie Redding in An Officer and a Gentleman, The Musical and made a guest appearance in Home and Away. From February 2013, Brown began appearing as Sergeant Matt Turner in the long-running soap opera Neighbours.

Josef has been a “passionate vegetarian” for 15 years after coming across an animal liberation stall outside a supermarket in Melbourne: “I went out the store with my chops and my chicken and I started reading all the stuff they had there. Maybe I’d already been leaning that way but from that day on, that was it, boom! I went home and threw out all the animal stuff I had."
