Red Lentil Dahl Serves 4-6
Dahl – a spicy lentil sauce used all over the Indian subcontinent – is
a fantastic accompaniment to curries, as well as being a great source of protein.
This is the quickest and tastiest dahl recipe I know of!
- 1 cup red lentils
- 3 cups water (add more during cooking time if you prefer more runny dahl)
- 1cm/½ inch cube fresh ginger, grated
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 2 cloves garlic, crushed
- Juice ½ lemon
- Salt to taste
- Wash
lentils well in a sieve
- Put
in a pan with water.
- Bring
to boil then add ginger.
- In
the meantime, dry roast cumin seeds in non-stick frying pan.
- Add
garlic to cumin seeds and allow to brown, stirring to make sure neither
burns.
- Add
to dahl.
- Cook
for 10-15 minutes, or until lentils soft.
- Add
lemon juice and salt to taste.
