Local Lass to Tell Manchester & Stockport ?Why You Don?t Need Dairy?
Stockport-born Juliet Gellatley is founder and director of the Vegetarian & Vegan Foundation and Viva!, Europe?s largest vegetarian/vegan campaigning organisation. She is taking a trip home to advise local people to drop milk and dairy products from their diet if they want to be healthy. Her free public talk ? Why You Don?t Need Dairy ? is on Sunday, 25 February, 2007 at The Basement, Manchester.
Juliet?s compelling talk will ask: is it natural to consume milk after weaning? Indeed is it natural to consume cow?s milk at all? What is the life of a dairy cow? Why has dairy been linked to cancers ? especially breast and prostate? Why is milk full of hormones and how do they affect us? What are the links to other diseases? Do we ? and especially our children ? need calcium from dairy?
Juliet has given hundreds of talks on vegetarianism and is frequently interviewed on radio and TV. She has launched many successful campaigns on vegetarian/vegan and animal welfare issues, including Convert-a-Parent and Under Fire ? a campaign that stopped the nationwide sale of ?exotic? meats. Juliet created National Vegetarian Week and produced the award-winning teenage videos, Food Without Fear and Food for Life. Juliet is the author of several books, including the classic book on vegetarian issues ? The Silent Ark. Acknowledgements include: the Linda McCartney Award for Animal Welfare (Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Awards); the Australian Wildlife Council Award; the Vegetaian Society Special Achievement Award; and the Ahimsa Award for Education (Young Indian Vegetarians).
The talk has been arranged for local animal welfare group Manchester Animal Protection (in collaboration with The Basement), but entry is free and open to all.
Following the talk will be a Q&A session, where Juliet will answer queries and give practical advice on going dairy-free. Free how to be dairy-free booklets and colour recipe guides plus a range of other Viva! and VVF materials will be available on the night.
Talk venue: The Basement, 24 Lever Street, Northern Quarter, Manchester M1 1DZ (very close to Piccadilly Gardens). 7pm ? 9pm. Entry is free.
