The Incredible Veggie Roadshow comes to York!

Everything you ever wanted to know about going, being or staying veggie (or vegan) will be on tap at The Guildhall, St Helen?s Square, York on Saturday, June 3, 2006, from 10.30am to 4.30pm ? and it?s all free! Organised by campaign group Viva!, entry is free; a whole range of delicious food tastings are free ; and all the advice you could ever want on changing your diet or improving your health is also free.

A brilliant family day out, there will be cookery demonstrations, talks, veggie stalls, competitions, cruelty-free fashion, beauty products, vegan food products, books, information and campaign news. And free nutritional advice will be available all day.

Viva! ?s roadshows were a huge success last year when they visited 12 cities. Average attendance was 1,400 and post-show questionnaires were thick with praise. The year culminated in Europe?s largest-ever veggie event at Wembley Conference Centre ? The Incredible Veggie Show ? which had an incredible 5,000 visitors. A third of those attending the shows were meat eaters looking for help in cutting down their intake.

Viva! is an international animal campaigning group with offices in the UK, USA and Poland and carries out undercover investigations to expose animal abuse. Successes include ending the sale of ?exotic? meats such as kangaroo and crocodile by all big supermarkets, stopping the debeaking of ducks in the UK, slashing the export of Polish ?meat? horses to the EU and persuading a US supermarket chain to entirely rewrite its animal welfare codes. Viva! also offers help to people wanting to go vegetarian or vegan.

?This is essentially a fun day out which is a celebration of veggie living?, says Juliet Gellatley, international director of Viva!. ?For the increasing numbers of people who want to find out more about improving their health, saving animals and protecting the environment, this is an upbeat event which will entertain and help. And it?s all free !?
