19th February 2013 My Lidl Pony Burgers Get People Galloping to Go Veggie Viva!s Free Go Veggie Starter Pack Becomes an Odds-On Favourite Meat burger sales drop by 40 per cent, Holland & Barrett report a 50 per cent jump in veggie food sales and everyone wonders if weve finally discovered what happened to Shergar. Veggie campaign group Viva! says, If it aint one thing its another.
Weve had diseased cows fed to other cows, scraps of meat blasted off carcasses with water jets; sinew, gristle and bones ground up and used as animal protein; sausages that contain eyelids, noses, scrotums and bit of uterus; and chickens pumped up with chemicals and water. And dont forget the antibiotics! Meanwhile, the mob has been sidling around Europe, whispering into pie-makers ears: Pssst, mate? Wanna bit of horse meat? Good quality gear! Cheap!
Viva!s advice is just to say NO. And to help, it has put together a free Go Veggie pack to help the millions of Brits who are fed up with their food being used as a dumping ground for bits of dead bodies that you need a microscope to identify.
Director Juliet Gellatley says: With our free pack, youll never again struggle to think of meal ideas as it contains some great recipes. You will also get a free link to the on-line Vegetarian Recipe Club that has hundreds of delicious recipes on tap.
On top of that, youll receive a free 40-page magazine that has sound health advice for adults and information on bringing up kids in the healthiest possible way. And if you really want to know how animals are reared and killed for food, what effect they have on the environment and what effect they have on you thats all there, too, as well as host of other advice on easy veggie living.
Even before this latest scandal, meat eating in the UK and US was falling as people become increasingly fed up with the disaster of modern animal farming. Changing your diet is one gamble you cant possibly lose. Its horses for courses not lasagne.
