Macca and Mary
Back Viva!’s Veg Week
Paul McCartney has been specially photographed by
his daughter Mary for Viva!’s colourful new
literature for National Vegetarian Week (June 25 to
July 1). Sporting a black T-shirt bearing the
words ‘Go Veggie with Paul and Viva!’, the
ex-Beatle takes poll position on a colourful
leaflet telling people the reasons to go
veggie.

The environment, animal cruelty, human health and developing
world starvation are all covered in simple ‘fact bite’
panels. The leaflet makes it clear that by giving up meat,
fish and slaughterhouse products, anyone can have an
immediate and positive impact on all these global
problems.
To help people make the change, a second colourful leaflet
sets out simple advice on how to go veggie. It carries
advice on health and nutrition, stocking the store cupboard,
convenience foods, ready mades and eating out as well as
great recipes. It carries another picture of Sir Paul by his
daughter Mary. A string of other celebrities join Paul in
his encouragement to people to make the change. Joanna
Lumley, Pam Ferris, Emma Wray, Benjamin Zephaniah and Moby
all give their support to the idea of ‘Live and let
live’.
Mary McCartney explains why she took the pictures: “I wanted
to be involved with Viva!. It is such an essential
organisation as it helps educate people about the reality of
the meat and livestock industries. At the same time they
give advice on how people can change things. I also love
the way that, upon request, Viva! provides nutritional
information, leaflets and books showing how one can have a
healthy, well-rounded diet without eating meat.”
