Job Description
Campaigner
The role of Campaigner is to increase vegetarianism and veganism in the UK and to increase the support of Viva! by organising successful campaigns on all relevant issues. Integral to this is raising the profile of Viva! via media and local group coverage of campaigns. The Campaigner reports directly to the Campaigns Manager and ultimately the Director.
This is a full time position based at our Bristol headquarters.
Create and develop new campaigns and assist with/develop existing campaigns by eg writing campaign materials; producing ideas for leaflets; posters (and how to distribute them); ads; direct mail; researching photos and other visual elements etc.
Organise campaign events eg regional and national demos/talks/publicity stunts etc.
Organise (oor work with PR Officer to coordinate) media surrounding the campaigns (and topics of the day as necessary; Viva! materials such as guides etc.) eg by writing and distributing media releases; letters to the editor; calling/meeting media; organising press launches, photocalls and other media events
Give media interviews (training given) and actively seek media interveiws
Ensure sympathetic media database and media log is up to date
Develop/nurture media contacts
Ensure media requests are answered the same day
Research all aspects of campaigns as necessary; produce written, fully referenced background reports as necessary; film and photograph as necessary (again keeping up to date investigation reports)
Increase number of Supporters and renewals from Supporters ie develop loyalty to Viva!
Devise and produce other materials when requested (eg Guides, booklets etc.)
Write features and news items for Viva!Life (and Veggiehealth) magazines; and for outside publications
Assist in development of fund raising eg by writing direct mail, magazine inserts, grant applications, help in development of radio/TV and other ads relating to campaigns etc.
Nurture and encourage high profile supporters
Help organise stalls at exhibitions; develop exhibition materials for campaigns
Give public talks when requested by the campaigns manager/director and actively seek public talks
Ensure campaign material requests are answered promptly (within one week)
Ensure each campaign has an action pack/response pack for the public/supporters and that the front office staff are fully aware of their contents; ensure such packs are kept up to date and that there are always packs collated
File campaign materials promptly and efficiently
Encourage and nurture local groups and increase their level of support eg
produce regular campaign mailings (and file sample copies promptly) and Viva!City (Email Alerts)
ensure materials order forms are updated
Assist with general enquiries and merchandise orders when necessary
Produce regular reports for and communicate frequently on all areas of work with the director
