Slaughter in the UK: What You Can Do

Viva! believes that slaughterhouse cruelty will only end when people stop eating animal products. For more information about going veggie, click on the button on the left hand side of the page. However, steps can also be taken to reduce the suffering of animals at slaughter and we urge you to write to your MP and the Government to seek action. Links to sample letters are include below. Please feel free to use these although letters in your own words are often more effective.

Write to animal welfare minister Ben Bradshaw MP, DEFRA, Nobel House, 17 Smith Sq, London SW1P 3JR (sample letter)

Write to your MP at House of Commons, London SW1A 0AA; to MSPs at The Scottish Parliament, Edinburgh EH99 1SP (sample letter) or AM at National Assembly for Wales, Cardiff Bay, Cardiff CF99 1NA. To find out the name of your MP call 0207 219 4272; MSP on 0845 278 1999; AM on 0299920 898 200.

It’s also a good idea to write to your local newspaper (sample letter), a great way of reaching thousands of people. Their address will be found in the paper or can be obtained from Yellow Pages. Address your letter to “Letters to the Editor”.
If you wish to email the letter, click here for a list of local papers.
