Sample letter on the farrowing crate
Name:
Address:
Dear Sir
As a customer of [name of the supermarket] in [your town/city] I am
writing to express my strong concern about the sale of pig meat from
pigs born in the farrowing crate. Pregnant sows are imprisoned in
this tiny cage for 28-35 days when giving birth. Unable to walk,
turn or fulfil their powerful maternal instincts, sows suffer
stress, pain and psychological torture in the crate. Their piglets
are often born into thier mother's excrement and many dies of
starvation and heat loss in this system. Even though humane,
effective alternatives to the farrowing crate exist, hundreds of
thousands of pigs still endure this barbaric treatment more than
twice a year, every year.
Please stop selling meat produced from pigs forced to endure this
torment. I look forward to your response.
Yours sincerely
